All keys lost
All keys lost? A new key made from the car itself
No key, no spare, nothing to copy. On many vehicles a new key can still be originated — cut from the vehicle's code and programmed to the immobilizer — without towing the car to a dealer. Whether yours qualifies depends on the year and system.

How an all-keys-lost job works
- Ownership is checked. Have photo ID plus the registration or title ready.
- The blade is cut. From the vehicle's key code, or by decoding a door lock so the cuts can be read.
- The immobilizer is accessed. Through the diagnostic port for most vehicles. Some systems need a security PIN read from a module first; some enforce a waiting period built into the car.
- The new key is programmed and tested. Doors, ignition, start — and the remote functions if the key has them.
Why some vehicles take longer
Immobilizer systems differ by manufacturer and by year. General Motors platforms often run a timed security relearn that no tool can shorten. Nissan and Stellantis (Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Ram) vehicles need a PIN before a key can be registered. Some BMW and Mercedes-Benz systems require module-level work or are restricted for certain years. The make pages below explain what applies to each brand.
With the year, make, model and VIN it is possible to tell whether your vehicle can be handled where it is, will take longer, or is a dealer job. Ask on the phone.
If your keys were stolen
If the keys were stolen rather than lost — especially along with something showing your address — report it to the police and mention it on the call. On many vehicles the old keys can be erased from the immobilizer during programming, so they will no longer start the car. If house keys were on the same ring, consider rekeying the home locks too.

Common questions
Can you make a key if I lost all of my car keys?
On many vehicles a new key can be originated where the car is parked; some systems take longer and a few are dealer-restricted. Call with the year, make, model and VIN and ask whether Mr Locksmith can do yours.
Do I need to tow my car to the dealer?
Not always — that is the main reason to ask a mobile auto locksmith first. If the dealer is the only realistic option for your vehicle, it is better to know before anyone is sent.
Can the lost keys be disabled?
On many vehicles, yes. Programming sessions can usually erase keys that are no longer present, so a found or stolen key will not start the car.
